As a child all I ever wanted to do in the summer time was go away to camp. Sleeping in bunks, roasting marshmellows and spending your days in the lake was the perfect way to spend a summer.

There are all sorts of ways to keep your child occupied this summer.  One novel concept being offered by Balboa Gallery is a photography contest for children.  The contest is open to children that reside on the Balboa Pennisula.

Balboa Island and Pennisula is one of the great wonders of Newport Beach.  Both areas front the water.  The Pennisula has the ocean on one side and the Harbor on the inland side.  The Island is on the Harbor.  They both have plenty to offer both visitors and residents.

Edwards Big Newport theater is celebrating the installation of their colossal screen with Steven speilberg's sci fi terror Jurrasic Park.  The screening will be July 28th at 7 p.m.

In keeping with the colossal and grand all proceeds will go toward the Newport Beach Film Festival and Susan Komen Foundation.

Fourth of July is celebrated with style and enthusiasim in Newport Beach. The festivities run from early morning to the evening. Beginning at 11 a.m. families can particpate in volleyball tournaments and hula-hoop contests, and join in craft making. 

There is always the bicycle parade, with festivily decorated bicycles.

The firework show sponsored by the city, will be at the Newport Dune.  Fireworks start going off at 9 pm.

Here is a fun and unique way to traverse the coastline without expending any energy.  Rent a segway!!!

You could go for miles with your segway enjoying the beauty of the coastline.  The downside is you also rent a guide with you segway rental.  Unfortunatly you and your friends will not be able to challenge each other as you race along the boardwalk.

Have you ever wanted to go to go to the beach and watch a movie.  Newport Beach hosts such an event every Friday and Saturday evening at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort.  This is as good as summer fun gets.  Bonfires are set up for roasting marshmellows and making smores. 

All you need to bring is your lounge chair and treats. Movies are free, parking is $10.

As the summer solistice is soon upon us, it will be time to sit outside and enjoy the summer evenings.  The Pacific Symphony Orchestra is offers 5 concerts throughout the summer.  

This is your oppurtunity to pack a picnic, lay down a blanket and enjoy the music under the stars.

For a different summer experience drive over to the Orange County Art Museum and sit out of the patio and enjoy an outdoor film every other Thursday now through August.

Before each movie screening there will be a live question and answer period with the film makers and an opportunity to explore the exhibits.
