As a native Angeleno the Hollywood Sign has always been a bit cliché. To visit the Hollywood sign would be akin to going to Grauman's Mann Chinese theatre and comparing my hands to DeNiro's, or else paying for admission to the Hollywood Wax Museum. And let me promise you that it wasn't my intent this time either, I was just looking for an enjoyable hike in the Hollywood ...

A restaurant has opened up in a very strange section of Los Angeles, on 2619 Wilshire Blvd. between Downtown and the Miracle Mile. You'll probably think you're in the wrong place. Even the sign is awkwardly hanging over the awning and doesn't seem to fit. But a few steps indoors and you're suddenly in another world. Through the club which starts hopping a bit later, past ...

There's no denying CPK founder Ed LaDou did great things for the pizza and since his initial bbq chicken and thai chicken concotions the pizza market exploded and everybody pitched in (although I'll never understand the egg and pea pizza). But CPK became so commercial and the quality's started to drop.
The remedy: Stonefire Pizza Co. on North La Cienega. North of the Bev Center about a mile is ...

As the mecca of pizza, it's tough to be the best pizza place in LA. There are some pretty legitimate restaurants who serve up New York thin, Chicago deep, and Bay area novel style pizzas, ALL of which are really good. But there's a new hot spot on Highland which can pretty safely lay claim to being the best pie shop in town.
Mario Batalli, the hit celebrity ...

Last night I went to an Italian restaurant right on the shore in Venice. Although a lot of people were queueing up outside, the waiting time wasn't that bad at all; we were seated within twenty minutes.
Not too bad when you know these people at C&O Trattoria in Venice have no free table ever.
Why that is?
Because C& O Trattoria lures tourists, beachgoers, locals and everybody else who's hungry into their ...

There's nothing more quintessentially American than taking in a baseball game on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon. I know what you're thinking: sports teams in California are a joke. That may be true, people may be more preoccupied with living in trees, eating organic, and spending ridiculous amounts of money on entertainment, but still, baseball is baseball.
My friend won in ...

The Edison, tucked away in the boiler room of the Higgins Building on the corner of Main St. and Second St, is another hot spot that has opened up in recent months due to the boom in downtown LA. The entrance is tucked away in the alley and there is no sign flashing outside that is telling you that you are at the right place. I think that's ...

There's nothing better to do on a beautiful day than take a leisurely drive up PCH to get fish'n'chips. Take PCH north past Pepperdine and on your right, right before the famous Malibu trailer park (where Matthew McConaughey has recently set up camp), will be Malibu Seafood.
They offer delicious fish'n'chips, plus a wide array of other seafood and fried chicken strips to satisfy any craving. It can be ...

One of the best ways to spend a beautiful sunny Southern California spring day is at a ballgame. I mean, nothing says spring like baseball. Well, maybe rain does, but this is Los Angeles!
Here in Los Angeles, we have two baseball teams: The Los Angeles Dodgers and The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Seeing the Dodgers always seemed easier to me since they are actually here in L.A., but it ...

Hamburger Mary's, located at Sweetzer and Santa Monica Blvd. in the heart of West Hollywood, is a raucous gay-friendly establishment with delicious drinks, great burgers, and fun theme nights. Wednesdays are Bingo nights, hosted by Belle-Aire, a hilarious drag queen with a biting humor, and are co-hosted by a D-List celebrity. (Well, Paris Hilton co-hosted once.) There are some seriously good prizes to be won, and the ...
