The Heart of Los Angeles

Dreams of Bunker Hill may dance in your head.  Maybe you dream of living the life John Fante.  Perhaps you've heard of a downtown renaissance (when was the first birth again?).  It's conceivable you are here for the yoga championships.  Sorry, Bikram does not give out a cool title belt.  Probably you are in town on business.  Convention maybe?  Building some business in the new gateway to the melting pot?  ...

Disneyland is for Lovers

If you happen to be in a couple and in or around the Southern California area, I would highly suggest you take a day and just pretend you're cheesey and in love. Because if anywhere will do it for you, it's Disneyland. Disneyland caters to three types of people: those who are wearing a fanny packs and are strapped down with 3.5 kids, Asian tourists strapped down with ...

Catalina Island

Catalina Island

Catalina Island is a good (one time) digression, and definitely not on the average tourist's itinerary.  The port city...Avalon...is pretty small, and can be totally and exhaustively explored in a matter of hours, but it is the trip in totality that makes this one worthwhile.  The boats (Catalina Express is the operator boasting the best schedule) leave from Long ...

The REAL Santa Monica

The REAL Santa Monica

by: Matt Tucker

So you want the real scoop on Santa Monica while you are in LA? Well, here goes...most of the locals stay away from the Promenade. It is a tourist TRAP and (therefore) the homeless tend to congregate there. Don't get me wrong, the monkey on a leash that ...

Welcome to L.A.

I've lived in and around L.A. for most of my adult life. I'm not from here and am often asked how it is I contend with all the crazies and the weirdos by my family back home. Easy enough - I had lots of practice growing up!

I love Los Angeles because of the endless variety of things to do spread out over hundreds of square miles. I ...

What to do in Santa Monica

No trip to Santa Monica would be complete without a walk down the Promenade, that's three blocks of uninterrupted shopping and entertainment.

The pedestrian zone is just two blocks back from the beach and runs between Broadway and Santa Monica Boulevard.

The streets are lined with singers and performers who'll accompany your stroll around the shops or trip to the cinema.

There's also great places to eat, including the Broadway Deli - a particular ...

LA WITH THE KIDS - Long Beach

LA WITH THE KIDS

  by: MAtt Tucker

Educational LA  - Long Beach

For these entries, I have compiled a list of places guaranteed not to evoke the inevitable, "Aw man!  We have to learn something????!!!!!"  These are, what I like to call, subliminal educational experiences.  Kids see them as fun, and don't even realize that they are taking something away from it.  All the benefit with none of the nagging...work ...

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL PARK - BASEBALL TICKETS

Don't come out to the West Coast without taking in a game of baseball.

It's the national sport and to understand it is to understand a lot of what makes America.

Los Angeles has two teams, the Dodgers and the Angels (technically in Anaheim, just outside LA).

The regular season runs from April until October and there are games almost every night of the week.

Ticket availability can depend on the game, weekends being ...

Spazio Jazz Supper Club-Los Angeles

jazz-three.jpg

Very few people will argue that Spazio is Los Angeles' premiere jazz supper club. Here, you'll find an awesome award-winning menu and an exciting environment that is the perfect accompaniment.  This is a class act!  The acoustics are great, the stage lighting is perfect, and the piano is actually tuned.

There are nightly performances in the main dining room rounded out by the best talent on ...
