Best Pizza in Los Angeles
As the mecca of pizza, it's tough to be the best pizza place in LA. There are some pretty legitimate restaurants who serve up New York thin, Chicago deep, and Bay area novel style pizzas, ALL of which are really good. But there's a new hot spot on Highland which can pretty safely lay claim to being the best pie shop in town.
Mario Batalli, the hit celebrity chef of food network and recently one of the Iron Chefs on "Iron Chef America," has teamed up with the less well known in the non-food world but highly revered among foodies Nancy Silverton founder and owner of LaBrea Bakery. It's a perfect match with Silverton making probably the most amazing thin crust with two inch high puffy outer layers. She makes a tempting argument to eating the crust first. But then Batali, uses his extensive Italian training to work up some of the most irresistable toppings. The fried sage with aged and truffle infused fontina cheese is a must, as is the fennel sausage. Wine by the glass and carafe is all very reasonable, and the guy next to me liked his dessert (I thought it was pretty passé).
They've been pretty booked for a few months so show up early and sit at the bar.
Oh! and it's called Mozza.
