Welcome to L.A.
I've lived in and around L.A. for most of my adult life. I'm not from here and am often asked how it is I contend with all the crazies and the weirdos by my family back home. Easy enough - I had lots of practice growing up!
I love Los Angeles because of the endless variety of things to do spread out over hundreds of square miles. I love the beaches. I love the mountains. I love the junk food, the comfort food, the healthy food. I love the variety of people, the variety of animals, the variety of scenery. If you can get bored in L.A. you are trying to be bored. Even with little to no money there is always something going on.
I'm an unabashed supporter of the city and a loudmouth advertiser of its merits. Whatever you want you can find it here. Unless you want an NFL game at the stadium. There's always USC, though, if you want well-paid prima donna athletes. I kid, I kid.
If you are new to town and want to know about the hipster happenings maybe try out flavorpill. There are always happenings, events, art shows, music shows, fashion shows, movie events going on. Just dig in and enjoy.
If you are coming to visit for the first time or are looking for something new, the best advice (on a macro level) I can give on finding a hotel is narrow it down. There are all manner of accommodations at or near wherever you want to go. Are you up in the valley going to Universal Studios? Are you going to be in Pasadena, maybe taking in a horse race at Santa Anita or walking the Huntington Gardens? Walking the beaches in Santa Monica? Shopping on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills? Any of the other millions of things available to Angelenos and Southlander (Southlandians?) on a daily basis?
If you've got it in your head to come try on Los Angeles, don't let anything or anyone deter you. Whatever your budget, or lack thereof, you can find something here to make you feel like you're at home. Welcome to L.A!
