Long Beach's 2nd Street: An Introduction
Long Beach's premier district for shopping, eating, drinking, browsing, and socializing is located in the unique and quaint Belmont Shore area along 2nd street (map). From big heavies like the Gap to small boutiques carrying home-made crafts like "Blue Windows" the shopping is varied and fun. In between browsing the stores make sure to stop and have a bite to eat at the French restaurant La Creperie (serving a variety of yummy crepes) or the Lebanese restaurant Open Sesame (with garlic sauce to die for). Parking is reasonable with one quarter lasting you an hour at the meters, but give yourself plenty of time to find a spot, as spaces are scarce. You can try parking down one of the one-way streets, but bring your walking shoes...you may end up walking a block or more. Plus you will need them to explore the street. Don't forget to stop at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory on your way back to the car for a savory hand made truffle...
Stay tuned for a more in depth look at some of the gems that can be found along 2nd street...
