Hey, take a hike in Huntington Beach! (A nature hike, that is!)

Surf City not only offers awesome surfing and beautiful beaches. Did you know you can also tour the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve? Since the restoration project was completed in the fall of 2006, which reestablished the natural ebb and flow of water between the Pacific Ocean and the wetlands area, birds are flocking to the Huntington Beach wetlands. You can see brown pelicans in groups of 5 or 6 as well as black skimmers in groups of up to 30 at a time.  You will also see plants and animals indigenous to the area.  You are welcome to hike on your own or take a free tour with Amigos del Bolsa Chica on the first Saturday of every month from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM (Tel:714-840-1575). There is free parking; no pets or bikes are allowed on the tour.

18000 Pacific Coast Highway (approximate address)

It's nice to hear/read locals promoting their town! I recently moved here from Milwaukee and am slowly adjusting to life in Southern California. Thanks for the tips and suggestions. My favorite thing about living here, so far, is being able to run along the beach path...I love watching the dogs frolicking at the beach.
