THE LOCAL NEWSPAPERS
To find out what is going on in a city or area, when traveling, read the local newspapers.
In Foster City, California, there is a local paper called The Foster City Islander, which has been reporting about the city and area(about one hundred fifty miles or less)activities for at least thirty-four or more years. There are articles in the paper about the city council, the local playhouse, schools, local and area sports, and up to date news of the city and local area. The paper has had articles about places in the Bay Area and Northern California, such as the Pacific Coast; hang-gliders above the the Pacific Coast coastline; skiing in Sierra Nevada Mountains; and traveling on the Gold Rush Highway, State Highway 49. Theses are areas close to Foster City that many of the local people visit all the time.
The paper comes out every Wednesday. You can find it almost everywhere in the city and several places in San Mateo. Several years ago, the paper had a writer who was very knowledgeable about the Bay Area and Northern California. There were articles on local fishing, fishing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, winter and summer sports, local Bay Area's professional sports(San Francisco 49'ers and San Francisco Giants), and history of the area and of California.
You would just mention a subject, which you would like information on, and two to three weeks later there would be an article on that subject in the paper. As an example, someone mentions that there was talk about mountain traveler's sickness, when you drink lake or river water; several weeks later the writer wrote a good article about the sickness. During the winter months, the writer wrote many articles about skiing, snowshoeing in the Sierras, ski resorts, and snowboarding.
