IT IS THE BEST THAT I HAVE TASTED

While traveling through the Sierra Foothills, I came across a small restaurant called the Miner's Shack, which served the best omelets that I have ever tasted--as a matter of fact, I hate omelets, until I had one from the Miner's Shack.

This small restaurant is located in Sonora, California, which is on Highway 49, about one hundred thirty-six miles from Foster City. I got in Sonora about six a.m. and was looking for a place to eat. I saw sever people walking into a small restaurant and decided to follow. The restaurant was full except for a table in the rear, where I sat down.

Of course I asked the waitress what's good for breakfast. She said, "The cook makes the best cheese omelet that you have ever tasted. Should try one." "Ok, give me a cheese omelet and a cup of coffee."

The restaurant is a very cozy place: on the wall you can see pictures of gold mines with the miners standing by; a picture of the old soap-box-derby, which I understand was raced down Sonora main-street; a picture of the Sheriffs Posse; and items that were used in the mines. There are booths down one wall, a counter against the other, and in the middle are tables.

While eating the cheese omelet, I was amazed how it just seemed to flow down, while swallowing it, and it was soothing to the taste, not to strong and not to sweet, making you want to take another bite as quick as possible. In otherwords, it was the best that I have ever tasted. The owner, who is the cook, Harvey, came over for some reason--I guess he saw me taking notes--and sat down. In talking, I asked, "How did you learn to make a tasty omelet?" He said that he was amazed how the people loved his omelets. "You should taste his cheeseburgers," one person said while passing by. Harvey looked up and smiled and went back into the kitchen.

The reason I mentioned this restaurant is that when you are traveling and would like a good place to eat, look around and see what restaurants people are going into. I am not talking about fast food restaurants where you can eat something if you are in a hurry.

After breakfast I went to Columbia, California, a popular miner's town, but before I left the Miner's Shack, I went into the kitchen and said to Harvey, "I'm coming back to try your cheeseburger, I hope it is as good as your omelet"--It was.
