WILD ANIMALS ROAM THE AREA
"There's that crashing sound again." I said to my wife, while watching T.V. "Go, and see what it is," was my wife's reply.
When I opened the gate, where the garbage cans are kept, I saw three little cat like animals, but bigger; two were trying to open one of the garbage cans. I yelled at them, they looked at me, and then turned and kept on working on the garbage can. The third little animal was trying to tip a garbage can over .
I yelled again at the three of them, they just looked at me and walked off. This is when I realized that they were raccoons. All of this took place within ten minutes or less.
The next day, I talked to several people and neighbors about Foster City raccoons. I was told that there are many racoons in the area. Since they are nocturnal, you will, most of the time, see them or hear them at night. To get rid of the raccoons, you will have to call a local trapper since you can not shoot them or hurt them. If you put moth-balls around the area, it could drive them off for a while; but after a time, they will come back, maybe.
One morning, while eating breakfast, I had the feeling I was being watched by something: It makes you nervous, and instantly you look around to see if there is something watching you .
I saw something move on a fence that separates our house from our neighber's house. It was watching me through the window---a black squirrel. The little squirrel was just sitting on the fence with something in its little paws. We, both, looked at each other for a few seconds and then it just walked along the fence and disappeared.
Ive seen many gray squirrel in California, but seldom see, I mean, dark, dark, black squirrels. But in Foster City there are black, gray, and white squirrels. So to see a black squirrel watching you through a window does give you nerves a little tingle. When I went to get into my car, again I felt like I'm being watched. At the end of the driveway, there was a black squirrel with a white squirrel both eating something facing the road---theyturned towards me when I opened my car door.
Driving along Beach Park, when the sun goes down, and just before it gets dark, you can see little animals running in and out of the grass. They are furry little animals---black, white, and gray---with long ears and and little puff-up tails. We were sure they were rabbits, but not really positive, so we stopped and sat in the car waiting to get a better look at the little animal. About thirty minutes later, two animals came close to the car and just sat: it was a black and white rabbit and the flower of the woods---a skunk.
I and my wife knew that there wereskunks in the area, because some mornings or late at night, we can smell the odor that they leave. But what we did not know, that the skunk made friends with a small black and white rabbit.
Just remember, if you hear sounds near your garbage can it could be raccoons. They are a dangerous, cute, animal; if you smell a pungent oder, it could be the flower of the woods letting you know that he or she is close by. Don't try to pet a squirrels, if they bite you, they can give you rabies, as a matter of fact, all the animals that I wrote about can give you rabies, if you got bitten by them.
