Plums Restaurant

What seemed like a fun way to start the morning on this Memorial Day Weekend literally turned into a headache. My husband and I decided to go to Plums Restaurant on 17th Street for breakfast.  Bad mistake.

We sat down for breakfast and asked not to be seated near any families with children.  The place was crawling with children.  We were told it would be quieter to sit outside.  We went ...

My Big Fat Greek Festival

My husband and I have been attending this festival since 2002 when it first debuted. St. John's Greek Festival is held on the church property in Anaheim. It has grown over the years from a small festival with great food cooked by the local woman to larger festival with more displays and activities each year. The food continues to be great. The parish women start gathering ...

Gas for under Four Dollars

It is a really sad day when I get excited about gas being just under four dollars. However I was driving around for work today and found at under $4.00. Needless to say I filled up my tank. The station was Chevron on Beach Blvd. at Lampson in Stanton. Regular gas was $3.75.

Grab a Bag or Basket and Go Shopping

I was in San Francisco this past weekend and the one thing that struck me the most when I was at the markets-were the lack of plastic shopping bags. San Fran has passed an ordinance restricting plastic bags in grocery stores. Everyone shops with a canvas or cloth bag or a basket.
Earth Day was just last week and it is a great idea. Why load up on ...

Cost of everything going up.

I have just finished reading the morning edition of the Los Angeles Times Business section and the news is rather dismal. Rice around the world is in short supply. There have been riots in Egypt and Haiti due to a lack of rice. In the US, Sam's Club and Costco have been limiting the number of bags customers can buy. This is really rather shameful as ...

Pottery Barns around the country are hosting complimentary flower arranging classes. This is an event that will be fun for all. Anyone can go buy a bouquet of flowers, however arranging and displaying them always makes a difference.

Gas Prices up again

You really do not need me to be telling you that gas prices are up once again. If you have not realized this you either do not drive or do not pay attention to how much money you spend. Yes they are up 50 cents from a year ago. My car has a 12 gallon tank and I was abhorred that filling up at the tank ...

Do not Ask Me

I have no explantion for the recent rise again of gas prices in Southern California.  Gas prices are up 7.7 cents from last week.  The only explanation AAA has is that in the summer time the gas has an additive that supposedly makes gas cleaner that is not used in the winter.  WHO KNOWS.  Interestingly enough none of the candidates have addressed the cost of gas in any of the speeches.

Here ...

141 Beers to Try Out

The Goat Hill Tavern is a Costa Mesa icon.  The tavern is a no-frill sort of place with sawdust on the floor, 141 beers on tab and peanutes at the bar; yes you can throw the shells on the floor.  For those that are looking to have some fun , they have a pool table, shuffleboard and foosball.

It came to be the Goat Hill tavern in the early 80's and ...
