Laguna Beach Book Store

For those who ever visited the Pottery Shack in Laguna Beach, you would remember it with fond memories.  It was a great ecletic place to get Christmas decorations and pottery for the home.  The store shut down a few years ago.  However the ambience and environment of the Shack is still well and alive.  The premises is now a collection of interesting stores.

One of my favorite stores is the Laguna Beach Book Store.  Why, you may ask.  I love bookstores.  And I have a certain fondness for independent bookstores.  Every independent bookstore I have ever walked into has a certain feel to it.  The store usually reflects the thoughts of the community and is influenced by it's workers.  I came in touch with the bookstore through a lecture I attended.  They were promoting the speaker's book.  I had never heard of the store before that night.

Yesterday I was in Laguna Beach.  It was the perfect sunny California Sunday.  On my list of destinations was the bookstore.  It is a fantastic store with a wide variety of books.  They have the usual section which includes, new releases, fiction and non-fiction.  Another section is dedicated to New York Times List.  Throughout the store are book suggestions from different workers.  The store is easy to navigate and the books are pleasantly displayed.  Not that the display of books would be unpleasant, however sometimes you can find yourself in a book store but not be quite able to find a book.

The store hosts numerous events.  Their next event is with author Lisa See, you may know her from Snowflower and the Secret Fan and Peony in Love.  She will be present on March 27th.  Given the turn out the store is expecting , you need to contact the store directly for location details.

The store has their own bookclub that meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month.

Read away.
