Celebrating the Winter Solistice
Friday December 21st is the longest day of the year. I will be flying home to my parent's home for Christmas. Hopefully the airlines will not think that they have extra time to get me home and have flights delayed longer than usual. Last year I started my trip at 6:30 a.m. for a 8 a.m. flight. My first flight did not leave the runway until after 5 p.m. It was 5 a.m. when I arrived at my final destination. However I was more fortunate than others. I encountered someone from the military who had left Afghanastan three days earlier. He had not been outside an airport in three days encountering numerous delays along the way.
To acknowledge the winter solistice First United Methodist Chruch at 420 W. 19th Street in Costa Mesa will be having the Longest Night Blue Christmas Service at 7:30 p.m. Attendees will have the oppurtunity to light a candle in remembrance of a lost one or as a sign of hope.
