Coming in for a Landing in Newport-Mesa
If you are flying to the Costa Mesa, Newport Beach you are fortunate as you have your choice of four airports that you could fly into.
The closest and most convenient airport is John Wayne Airport, SNA is the airline code. This airport is technically in Santa Ana, however it borders Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. Depending where you are on the airstrip, you could touch each city. Some of you may recognize the airport from Jerry McGuire.
Ontario airport, ONT is another choice. It is in the Inland Empire about an hours drive depending on traffic. Ontario is a medium sized international airport. The airport is easy to get in and out of.
Long Beach airport, LGB is an airport straight out of the '40's. To collect your luggage you go to an outdoor carousel. The airport restaurant gives you a view of the tarmac. Inside the airport is a collection of old black and white photographs depicting the history of the airport and aviation. If you are coming into the area courtesy of Jet Blue this would be your hub.
Los Angeles airport, (LAX) is without a doubt my least favourite of all the airports. It is large, noisy, crowded and difficult to collect luggage and get out of the airport quickly. However it is the number one airport for flights leaving to the Orient. If you are on an international flight coming to the Newport Mesa area chances are this is the airport where you will be landing.
Bon voyage!
