Also, guests, with wireless laptops, can use the park's Wi-Fi service to surf the web. The campground is a popular destination for surfers so be sure to make campground reservations well in advance. The beach is a perfect destination for a family as one can enjoy many activities such as swimming, fishing, or surfing. A set of stairs provide easy access to the beach.

I have to confess, I've lived in California my entire life and my surf experience is limited to the use of a boogie board, but I've always wanted to learn how to surf. There have only been two things that have prevented me from achieving my goal. One-I do not own a surfboard. Two-I have no clue how to traverse the waves. Well, the other day, I learned that Carlsbad has a surf school for wanna-be Gidgets and Moondoggies. The surf school provides a foam surfboard, a wetsuit, a rashguard, and a two hour lesson. The lesson fees range from $30.00-$90.00 per person, depending on the size of the group. I'm looking forward to this summer, and who knows you may see me riding the waves one of these days.

Visitors will marvel at the display of bright-colored and fragrant blooms, and it is advised that you bring a camera to catch the beauty on film. This year, one will have the added enjoyment of two new features:  A Sweet Pea maze and a variety of Paul Ecke Poinsettias. Instead of a flower bouquet on Valentine’s Day, this year, give your special someone a trip to the Flower Fields. I enjoy the fields every year and I know that you will too.

Locals have frequented the chain restaurant since the 1980s, and many agree that the main draw is Ruby’s line-up of scrumptious shakes and malts. The diner has 14 varieties of shakes to tempt the taste buds. Some of the more unusual varieties include Pineapple, Black Cherry, Mocha, and Black Forest. My personal favorite is the Chocolate-Banana shake which consists of a chocolate shake with chunks of fresh banana, a maraschino cherry, and whipped cream. Soda lovers have two choices. One may opt for Ruby’s Root Beer Float, or the diner can get a flavor add-on for his or her Coke. Add-on flavors choices are Cherry, Vanilla, Lemon, or Chocolate. Visitors to North San Diego can find a number of Ruby’s Diner locations. Beachgoers can enjoy views of the waves at the Oceanside Pier location, and shoppers can visit the diner at the Carlsbad Premium outlet center. Be sure to bring an appetite.

The fish arrives at the table grilled to perfection and topped with a variety of seasonings. The chef will prepare the fish Teriyaki style upon request. The meal starts with a loaf of steaming-hot sourdough bread. One also has a choice of three side dishes. The side dish offerings include rich pilaf, salad, Romano mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, or strawberries. Fish House Vera Cruz offers great food at an affordable price. One can expect to pay $15-$25 per guest. In addition, the atmosphere is comfortable and casual, and there is the visual appeal of the restaurant’s aquariums, which include a variety of colorful fish.

In Carlsbad, Genie Sutton, owner of the Beehive Waxing Salon, is the queen bee of the waxing set. Carlsbad residents swear by her "Itsy Bitsy Bikini Wax", a bargain at $38. The more daring waxaholic can opt for a Brazilian wax, but be sure to stock up on the salon's "No Scream Cream" for either option. The "magic" cream dulls the waxing site, and one experiences little or no pain during the waxing process. The first time I stepped into the salon, I felt nervous and uncomfortable because I was a waxing newbie, but Genie set me completely at ease. She greeted me with a smile and an invitation to help myself to coffee and sweets, and throughout the waxing session, Genie's voice had a soothing effect. After the first session, I felt invigorated and sexy. I was hooked on waxing.
