108 degrees

When we went out this afternoon the temperature in my car said it was 108 degrees and it felt like it.  When we got home the garage wouldn't open. Strange. So, I threw the kids over the wooden fence then attempted my personal "stunt woman" move. I won't go into detail but I ended up with only minor scratches. When we got inside I ran to put the almost melted Nestle ice cream pops we had just bought in the freezer, but when I opened the door I was slapped with evaporating (not as cold as it should be) air. That's when I looked at the phone (we have VoIP) and realized the Internet was down, but that's not all, so was the air. The power was out.

It was so hot in the house I realized it had been out for a while. The kids were starting to drip sweat when I thought of the perfect solution. We could to check into a local resort. The situation didn't seem so bad all of a sudden. I could spend the rest of the afternoon pool-side with misters spraying me as I hold a glass with a little umbrella twirling perfectly in my fruity, tropical cocktail. The kids could frolic in the kiddie pool as I read one of those books in my "to-read" stack.

But then I realized I might need to go load up on ice. We had hit Sam's Club yesterday and have a freezer of meat. Uh-oh. Well, it ends up the number 40 is the magic number. As long as the food doesn't cross that number (for more than 2 hours) it's okay. I hope it isn't the same for the age 40, God knows it will one day be my turn.

It wasn't long before the power revived and the ceiling fans started twirling again. Yes, it's good news. But I still kind of wish it was a little umbrella twirling instead.

God, I remember those scorching temperatures! I lived in Tucson (actually was stationed at Davis-Monthan) for three glorious years. Never had the air go out in my place however in my car, most definitely. That's no fun.

I dig your story. I almost felt like I was standing across the street watching you as you hoist your kids across the fence, as well as yourself. Funny stuff...
