Ilsa's Konditorei and Bakery

When you're in the mood for a little splurge, stop by Ilsa's Konditorei and Bakery at 3355 N. Dodge Blvd. You won't regret it. This week is our 5 year wedding anniversary and I remember our elegant wedding cake like it was yesterday.

We had the Princess Cake, (white cake, raspberry cream filling, vanilla custard, kirschwasser vanilla cream, and marzipan. The marzipan on our cake was off-white rather than the mint green Ilsa has in the display case. If marzipan isn't really your thing try anything else, especially chocolate. Divine!

If you are still interested in Ilsa's cakes, they are available through the Village Bakehouse. When Ilsa decided to retire she gave us her prized cake recipes so we could make them to her specifications and keep her customers happy. We make all her traditional cakes including everyones favorite the Princess cake. If you are interested call 531-0977.

I was in Tucson for almost 40 years and Ilsa's became our birthday cake place (as well as satisfying our pastry hunger). I went away for a couple of years and when I came back Ilsa's was gone! But now I have found where her superb recipes are carried on - thank heavens! It's birthday-time once again and I need a cake in a couple of days. So I'm off to the Village Bakehouse!
