There's a town about half an hour outside of Sedona called Clarkdale that in modern times is known mostly for one thing --- The Verde Canyon Railroad. This attraction is an excellent way to site-see in the area. Having ridden the railroad three separate times, first-class is highly recommended and well worth the extra cost.
The train starts in Clarkdale and makes a leisurely two-hour 20-mile trip to Perkinsville. ...

Oak Creek Canyon is closed until at least March 5th to repair a section of the road the fell into the canyon. The closure occurred a day early as a snowstorm swept through northern Arizona and made the road unsafe. The retaining walls on either side of the break will be joined together with steel rods cemented into the canyon wall. This mostly affects visitors traveling between ...

The Sedona Trolley is the best first thing to do upon your initial arrival. They provide two separate tours each lasting just under an hour. The tours are fully narrated with loads of information about history, geology, climate, wildlife, hiking and biking trails, dining, and more.
The first tour, "A", focuses on the south side of town near Tlaquepaque, Gallery Row, and the Chapel of the Holy Cross providing excellent photo ...

All that work being down on uptown (you couldn't possibly have missed it over about the past two years) is near completion. By the end of the week, it should be 99% completed with only some minor touch-ups needed. The only items remaining are the fog seal and the striping, both of which require the highway to be shut down completely to proceed. It has been suggested ...

The Coffee Pot Restaurant is an older and established location in Sedona, getting its name from the nearby Coffee Pot Rock that is shaped like, you guess it, a coffee pot. Since there are no windows in the dining area, you'll find no redrock views here, but the interior decor and murals will be a nice change.
The claim to fame at this restaurant is their 101 omelettes, each listed on ...

If you're into finding little known secrets, especially free ones, then you're in luck. Ever since I travelled to Sedona with my parents in the late 70s, I've always liked visiting one particular location for it's clear delicious water. On 89A about halfway between Sedona and Flagstaff just south of the switchbacks, you can find some of the best water you've ever tasted.
When I first visited this place, the water ...

Sedona has agreed to join a regional committee to build bicycle trails throughout Verde Valley. This committee will focus on assessing current trails, planning for future trails, maintaining consistency, and providing for the entire Verde Valley.
Sedona is promoted as being a healthy and outdoors-oriented place to live, so it's odd that the city isn't more bike-friendly. Over the next few years, more efforts will be focused on increasing bicycle use, ...

Sedona is said to have a very high spiritual energy, and attracts many visitors each year specifically for this reason. These energies are referred to as Vortexes, and are located in specific areas of Sedona. These areas include Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, Airport Mesa, and Boynton Canyon. So what is it that causes a vortex?
Some look at it from a scientific view. Sedona's landscape has a very high iron content, ...

Northern Arizona Massage Therapy Institute, otherwise known as NAMTI, is a massage therapy school located in west Sedona. One of the things I sought out years ago was a place to get a massage. What could be better than a comforting and relaxing massage nestled in the red rocks of Sedona?
At NAMTI, you can experience both a relaxing massage and reduced rates because the massage therapists are students. But don't ...

Six years ago today, my wife and I were married in the Village right down by Oak Creek. The mountains in the background were dusted with snow and the sound of the water added a certain ambiance. The couple that planned and conducted the wedding live within a mile or so of the creek and have their online presence at www.sedonaweddings.com. Robert and Sharon ...
