chill at Olive & Ivy

After a long day of shopping at Fashion Square, which included an unnecessary frivolous trip to Mont Blanc to get a new fountain pen (or pain, I should say, to my wallet), my boyfriend and I wanted to unwind before heading home. Olive a& Ivy is still one of our favorite stops whenever we're in that area. It's a hip and casual place, with a classy vibe.

Depending on the entrance you take, you will either be greeted by their marketplace where you will find delicious baked goodies, sandwiches, coffee and other drinks, plus gelato; or the bar and the cozy lounge where they have small leather couches and tables where you can comfortably sit and relax. And that's what we did.

It was an excruciatingly hot day yesterday and a pitcher of red sangria with their flatbread pizza-ish concoction hit the spot. Perfect! We were too early for dinner to get anything more substantial, but our snack was good nonetheless. This was the second time I had their flatbread and it's something I go back for when I'm up for a quick snack.

With shopping bags sitting on the couch across us, we just lazed there for a while. They had an interesting array of of acoustic music yesterday. Nice, though. I love the artistic busts that are in the tall columns of shelves that covers the wall facing the bar, perpendicular to the gargantuan wine room. Have I mentioned their huge wine selection?

I've only had dinner at Olive & Ivy once with my boyfriend and his parents, and it was a memorably excellent meal. From the wine to the entrees of chicken and salmon, to the dessert. The whole setting of the restaurant at night is beautiful. Almost the whole length of the dining area is lined with big doors open and leading to the outside patio (it was November then, so the weather was perfect for patio dining). It definitely reminds me of the cool lounges in downtown Vancouver (Canada).

From end-of-the-day drinks with friends, to a casual business meetings, to a nice dinner meal, Olive & Ivy's the place to be. Check them out if you're in town:

Welcome, Joy! It's great to see someone covering Scottsdale in more detail, especially with the Super Bowl coming up. I prefer "Old Town" to North Scottsdale, probably because I'm more familiar with it, but I have to admit I missed Olive & Ivy. After reading your article, I'm definitely going to check it out! I've covered some Scottsdale destinations, attractions and events on the Phoenix blog and would love to hear your take on them.

Hope you enjoy your fountain pen. I use them too, my latest purchase was a limited edition Dupont that I picked up in NY last summer.
