Carefree Fine Art and Wine Festival

Fine art and wine go together like peanut butter and jelly. A combination irresistable and hard to beat. At least the peanut butter and jelly is, sometimes I'm not so sure about the fine art and wine. Once I saw a painting comprised half of red paint and the other half blue paint. People were oohing and ahhing over it and it came with a rather hefty price tag. I ...

Bob Seger Rocks Phoenix

For all those who can recall the dancing-in-your-underwear-and-socks scene from the movie Risky Business, which starred an adolescent Tom Cruise (pre-crazy), Bob Seger brings his brand of Old Time Rock and Roll to the US Airways Center on Tuesday, February 27 at 7:30 pm. Ticket information can be found at www.ticketmaster.com.

Legal disclaimer: I am in no way advocating dancing in your underwear and socks to loud, raucous, rock and roll music (or ...

Phoenix Overnighter - Prescott

As the original Capital of the Territory of Arizona, downtown Prescott will take you back to the 1,880's. With over 600 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, it was ranked in "The Top Ten True Historic Towns" by TRUE WEST WEST MAGAZINE. Prescott is in the mountains of the Prescott National Forest and is located 99 miles, or 1 hour, 56 minutes from Phoenix.

Scottsdale 5th Avenue Fine Art & Wine Festival

What a perfect weekend for an outdoor festival! Yesterday I stopped by the Scottsdale 5th Avenue Fine Art and Wine Festival in Downtown Scottsdale, Arizona and enjoyed some gorgeous weather and beautiful artwork.

Sometimes Arizona art shows tend toward a majority of Western and Southwestern themes, but the Thunderbirds Artists have been careful to include a nice variety ...

March brings Cactus League Baseball to Phoenix!

What better way to see your favorite Major League Baseball teams play all in one city in a period of just about a month? Would you like to see how the new players are doing before the regular season? Why not get up close and personal with your team's stars? Would you like to get away from freezing temperatures and enjoy the sunny ...

Phoenix Day Trip - Payson

If you want to see a forest and a lake again, Payson is a great, short trip away. Set by the Mogollon Rim and surrounded by the Tonto National Forest, this town has a lot to offer to the nature enthusiast, as well as the art collector. You can camp, swim and fish at the nearby lakes that are tucked in between the ponderosas, or; hang around town where many artisans have called home. Located just 88.88 miles, or 1 hour, 38 minutes from Phoenix, it is a very beautiful drive.

Taiko Drummers in Mesa

I went to Japan about a year and a half ago for a fun family vacay (yes, I'm aware I just said "vacay"), and we had the privelege of seeing the Taiko Drummers in their home country. I had absolutely no idea what to expect at the time, but hey, the ticket was on my dad, so I hopped on the train to (insert small Japanese town name I can't ...

Schubert: On Wings of Song

Although I'm more of a George Strait type of guy (less in looks and more in musical taste, so don't get too excited ladies), I know many people prefer something a bit more sophisticated and upscale for their entertainment.

jeffreysiegel.jpg

If you're one of those people, I invite you to a splendiferous night of classiness as pianist Jeffrey Siegel performs "Schubert: On Wings of Song."  He'll be ...

Phoenix Overnighter - Old Tucson

If you like movies, especially old western flicks, then you should definately check into a hotel in "new" Tucson and spend a day at Old Tucson Studios. With over 350 major motion pictures filmed here since 1939, John Wayne's "Rio Bravo" and Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday in "Tombstone" are two of the studio's Western memories I'll never forget. In fact, I put "Tombstone" as my all-time, favorite film because it revolves around friends and family.

According to mapquest, Old Tucson is 115.54 miles, or 1 hour, 58 minutes away from Phoenix.
