Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Opens to All These Places

It's official. Williams Gateway Airport will vanish into the mists of time on October 15, 2007. On that day Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport will unveil a new logo and other branding elements. Sad as it is to see the community turning its back on part of its history, the name change also heralds a news beginning of nonstop service to 13 new destinations.

"Changing the name is critical to ensure the airport reaches its highest potential creating jobs and commercial service development," said Lynn Kusy, executive director for the Wiliams Gateway Airport Authority. "We will continue to seek high profile alternatives to celebrate the proud military heritage created by those who served at the former Williams Air Force Base, and it will start with the renaming of the passenger terminal in Lt. Williams honor."

Among those who will become familiar with Williams terminal are travelers going to or coming from such places as:

  • Bellingham International Airport in Bellingham, Washington
  • Billings Logan International Airport in Billings, Montana
  • Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
  • Hector International Airport in Fargo, North Dakota
  • Fort Wayne International Airport in Fort Wayne, Indiana
  • Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay, Wisconsin
  • Missoula International Airport in Missoula, Montana
  • Greater Peoria Regional Airport in Peoria, Illinois
  • Rapid City Regional Airport in Rapid City, South Dakota
  • Chicago Rockford International Airport in Rockford, Illinois
  • Santa Maria Public Airport in Santa Maria, California
  • Sioux Falls Regional Airport in Sioux Falls, South Dakota
  • Stockton Metropolitan Airport in Stockton, California

The first flights to the new destinations will depart Phoenix-Mesa on October 25, 2007, traveling to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. More information on these and other flights is available online at FlyWGA.org.
