Bow WOW! Cosmo Bark Park Reopens

So Much To Do at Cosmo Bark Park
If it seems like the dogs around the Valley have been barking more than usual over the weekend, it could be because they have big news to share. Cosmo Dog Park, at 2502 E. Ray Rd. in Gilbert reopened Friday, September 7, after being closed for renovation and repair for more than a month. Early reviews indicate the response to the changes has been paws up, as park goers enjoy swimming, running, walking and, of course, socializing.

Cosmo Dog Park has been recognized as one of the best dog parks in the nation. In fact, Dog Channel.com named it America's top dog park for 2007 for it's "outstanding dog- and owner-friendly features". Four-footers will find a lake, complete with dock for swimming

as well as a large grassy area with plenty of room to run and even stuff to climb. There is also a separate area for timid dogs. All are off-leash areas. There are also dog-friendly amenities, like a fire hydrant shaped watering station and wading pool, in the common "on-leash" park areas.

The only sour note appears to be lack of shade for the two-footers to enjoy while their companions do their thing. There is a ramada in the grassy area. The stairs and platforms making up the permanent obstacle course offer limited relief as well. Young, newly planted trees will eventually offer some shade in the beach area, but right now the kid who decided to swim with the dogs probably has the best idea. Nothing was posted about whether human swimming was permitted or not.
