Win a Free Trip to a New Destination

Allegiant Airlines is working hard to put Mesa's Williams Gateway Airport (Phoenix-Mesa Airport) on travelers' maps. Not only is the company announcing service to 13 new destinations before September 16, one opinionated traveler will win two free round-trip tickets to each destination.

Travelers who complete the "We Need You" survey on the Williams Gateway Airport (WGA) website, giving their opinion about what destinations they would like to see offered by WGA in the future, prior to the latest destination announcement are eligible to win. A countdown on the Allegiant Airlines website helps travelers keep track of upcoming announcements. Two new destinations, Rockford, Ill. (Chicago) and Rapid City, S.D. have already been announced. The next announcement will occur at approximately 8 p.m. on August 16, if my calculations of the countdown are correct.

"We are excited to be partnering with Allegiant in our efforts to better serve the community," John Barry, marketing manager at WGAA, said in a written statement, "and we hope that this program gives back to those who have supported the vision of expanding air services from Williams Gateway Airport."

Service between WGA and Chicago Rockford International Airport will begin November 16, 2007. Initially, Allegiant will offer two weekly flights to Rockford. On Mondays and Fridays flights will depart WGA at 12:45 p.m., arriving in Rockford at 4:50 p.m. and departing Rockford at 5:25 p.m. and arriving in Mesa at 8:15 p.m. (all times are local). A one-way introductory fare starting at $79 is being offered on Mesa-Rockford tickets purchased by September 15 for travel through February 10, 2008. Regular one-way fares for this route will start as low as $99.

"We are extremely pleased to again expand the Allegiant brand of low-fare nonstop jet service within the Chicagoland community," Maurice J. Gallagher, Jr., president, CEO of Allegiant Air said in a written statement. "This is an exciting new addition for our airline and our customers as we launch the only nonstop, low-cost service from Rockford to Arizona."

More than 2,000 travelers voted for the Phoenix route, according to the Chicago Rockford International Airport website. Service will be provided by a 150-seat, MD-80 series jet-aircraft.

"We have been anticipating scheduled passenger service at Williams Gateway Airport and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Allegiant Air," Lynn Kusy, Williams Gateway Airport Authority (WGAA) executive director enthused. "This new route will offer valley resident and tourists alike, a very convenient and inexpensive way to travel to the Chicagoland market."

Service between WGA and Rapid City Regional Airport is scheduled to begin on November 21, 2007. A 130-seat, MD-80 series jet-aircraft will travel the route twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flights will depart WGA at 3:35 p.m., arriving in Rapid City at 7:15 p.m. and departing Rapid City at 7:55 p.m., arriving at 9:25 p.m. Introductory fares as low as $69 each way are available on tickets purchased by September 15 for travel through February 10, 2008. Regular one-way fares start as low as $89.

"The Rapid City Regional Airport is thrilled to have low cost, nonstop service to Phoenix-Mesa," said Mason Short, Rapid City Regional Airport Executive Director. "Phoenix is the fourth most popular market at the Airport and this direct flight will make it even more popular."

Allegiant will also partner with more than 20 resorts in Arizona, including hotels in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa to offer travelers affordable air/hotel packages. Low-cost car rental service will be available through Allegiant's partnership with Alamo Rent a Car.

Reservations may be made through the Allegiant website at www.allegiant.com or by calling the Reservations Center at 702-505-8888. Reservations may be made through professional travel agents as well.

Thanks for your comment! Are you renting a car to get from Rockford to downtown Chicago? I've never actually been to Rockford, it's about an hour's drive away from downtown, and I don't own a car!

Wacker Dr. is a great area - I actually work in the area, so I think I take it for granted. Anything along the river here is worth seeing. We actually saw them shooting that AllState ad, and right now, we're getting a kick watching them film the next Batman movie.

They are filming Batman all over the city. We see craft services trucks around downtown everywhere from lower Wacker, to over by the Sears tower, to in front of the Tribune building. We just tend to stumble upon them. If you're staying at the Club Quarters, you're bound to see a film crew at some point.

About a month ago, they shut down traffic on the bridges over the River to do a few shoots from a helicopter at night. It's going to be cool! It's always really fun to see the city where you live in a movie.
