Perk Up Your Monday with Martinis and Manicures

Mondays are notoriously depressing. Fortunately, Furio, one of Scottsdale’s hottest restaurants, offers a great way to get rid of the Monday blahs. It’s called Martinis and Manicures Monday and it is the perfect excuse for avoiding Monday night football in favor of an evening out with the girls.

For only $10, ladies can enjoy being pampered with a quick manicure and one of Furio’s specialty martinis. The pampering begins every Monday evening at 5:00 p.m. The crowd usually numbers around 60 women, according to the bartender, so the best bet is to arrive close to five and plan to linger over drinks and appetizers until the evening drive time is over, say around 7:30 p.m.

Martini and Manicure Mondays boast their own special menu of seven unique creations including:

  • the goDiva Martini – a blend of vanilla, White Chocolate Godiva and Chambord
  • the French Manicure – vodka, pineapple juice, cranberry juice and a splash of Chambord and
  • the Silk Wrap – “A Technicolor burst of orangeness with Orangello, Fruja Mango and a splash of orange Juice.”

I had the goDiva, which was delightfully decadent. Based on the number being prepared, the French Manicure was very popular the night I was there as well. Be prepared, the goDiva went straight to my head, making me glad I was planning to linger for a couple of hours and encouraging me to sample the appetizers.

The “Nibbles” menu included Furio’s signature Bisteca del Furio described as “thin slices of marinated flank steak served on an asiago baguette with warm brie and pesto.” It was very good and very filling. Luckily, I hadn’t planned on dinner, because this sandwich didn’t leave room for anything else. If you are really looking for an appetizer, you will probably want to split this with someone. At $8.00, it is the most expensive item on the menu, which also included Fresh Prince Edward Mussels and Aqua Clams and Rustic Italian Bread.

The manicurists were pleasant, talkative and quick. Color selection was somewhat limited, however, all were OPI and my manicure lasted most of the week, which is saying something because I usually ruin a manicure the same day I have it done. One nice touch, especially if you aren’t sitting with a table full of friends, is that the hostess places a little sign at your seat to hold it, letting other know you are getting a manicure and will be returning.

Furio is in an interesting location at the very end of what probably qualifies as “Old Town”. The best way to approach it is from the South on Scottsdale Road. It is tough to spot coming from the other direction, unless you already know where it is. The exact address is 7210 E. Second St., which is between Thomas and Indian School Roads.
