I was recently asked about the highlights of Anchorage. There are so many that it is hard to nip it down to just a few. Here is what I cam up with:
Activities:
I highly recommend the Alaska Native Heritage Center. There is a free shuttle that goes from the visitors center (4th and F) to this North Anchorage highlight. It is spendy(adult $24.95, child $16.95), but does a great job of ...

Kimball's started out as a dry goods store at the city's beginning in 1915. It has been a store ever since and was owned and operated by the Kimball family until they sold it to family friends in the 80's. It has been operating as the Kobuk, a tea shop and gift store for many years.
This is a great little gem of a store at this time of year. Old ...

Some of the best potters around town participate in this event which, in addition to booths and the potters themselves, includes a silent auction to raise money for the local pottery ...

I love going to local holiday bazaars. It puts me in the holiday mood for my own craft projects and inspires me with new ideas of my own. It also gives me the chance to discover local handmade treasures and treats for friends and family.
The season has begun in earnest. the Anchorage Daily News has a fairly comprehensive guide to what is happening around town and what the main focus ...

If you are looking for something to do in Anchorage tonight, I've got just the thing. How about the "Ring of Fire Mead Tasting?" It's at 6:00 PM at Café Amsterdam (530 East Benson Blvd.). There is no cover charge, but there is a cost for tasting the goods and dinner too, of course. Mead is a honey-wine. This event will showcase the goods from the "first Alaskan Meadery." If ...

I've been so busy living my "Big. Wild. Life." that I've had little time to write about it. However, so much fun stuff is going on that I had to jump on line to let you all know about it. The biggest news is that "Fur Rondy" otherwise known as Fur Rendez-Vous officially kicked off this weekend. The Rondy is the largest winter carnival in North America. It started way ...

What a GREAT day we had! We have relatives in town and we wanted to get them out into the wilderness. Just one hour South of Anchorage, Alaska is a ski community called Girdwood. The Alyeska Resort is located there. We stopped there first to rent some snowshoes and poles for our guests (we have our own).
Although there are great trails in Girdwood (like the Winner Creek trail right ...
