Hope, Alaska
Hope is about 1 1/2 hours from Anchorage on the other side of the Turnagain Arm. In 1886, gold was discovered here. 3000 people lived in Hope before Anchorage even existed. Now Hope is a sleepy little town of 200. Many of the buildings are original. They have a great camp ground with a fabulous view and easy fishing for Pinks (salmon) at the right time of year. You can pan for gold too!

(Above) Turn around while "downtown" and this is the view in the other direction. The Camping/RV area is right behind me as I took this photo.
(Above) Goofball boys!
(Above) The little Hope Museum offers some perspective on the town and its' history. A very worthwhile stop.
One of the homes... apple tree in front. The fence was made of young trees sawed in half lengthwise. Charming!
(Above) Another view of town. The Social Hall (built 1902) is the first building on the right. It is still in use today.
Another view of the people fishing!
