Downtown Fishing Hole

The Silvers are in at Ship Creek! Whether you live here or are just visiting, a walk down to Ship Creek is a treat at this time of year. Ship Creek is within fairly easy walking distance of most of the downtown Anchorage hotels. It is down hill, so if you are not nimble, you can look into the free "Ulu Factory" trolley which departs from the visitors center (4th & F) to go down the hill and from the Ulu Factory to go back up the hill.

Once you get to the Ulu Factory, peek around the backside of it. There is a Bridge to the left which crosses over to the North side of the Creek. If you turn right after crossing the bridge, you will see a little red shack that can outfit you for a fishing adventure of your own from the license to the gear, even waders.

You don't have to fish, of course. If you follow the river (up stream) you will come to a second bridge that is also a fish ladder. On the North side of that bridge, the fish congregate and rest before attempting to swim the ladder. Sometimes the water is teaming with fish!

The road by the Ulu Factory is Ship Creek Road. From downtown, you can follow E street down the hill to the right. You will see the Ulu factory as you come around the curve.
