Smokey, Hot, Hazy Days of Summer
The smoke and the haze from more than 70 Alaskan fires, including a brush fire in East Anchorage have erased the ever present Chugach Mountain Range from the Anchorage skyline. This may not mean much to someone from a place where the mountains are distant from the city, but in Anchorage it is the equivilant of not seeing your hand in front of your face. It is not quite bad enough to burn your throat... but almost. The best we can hope for in this dry hot summer (record breaking 80 degrees in Anchorage yesterday) is a glimpse of the sure-to-be-spectacular sunsets... if you stay up that late. The good news is the warmth has done a number on the mosquito's... the bad news is that it is stirring up the bees and wasps. Happy July!
