Anchorage Market & Spring!
It is spring in Alaska. After weeks of annoyingly sunny warm weather (wink), it finally rained yesterday. Everything lools fresh and green today!
It is fitting then, that today is the first day of the Anchorage Market and Festival, a weekend market that is open on Saturday's and Sunday's throughout the summer. 400 vendors pack themselves into the parking lot on 3rd and E street, musicians play, dancers dance, fresh produce is offered as it grows, alaskan made crafts and fair food galore. I'm remembering the birch candy and syrup booth (from the valley) that I discovered last year, yum... I hope they are back.
Spring is busting out all over. The tourists are dragging there bags around the Egan center as they wait for the buses that will take them to their hotels, the airport or the cruise ship docks in Whittier and Seward (the last I heard, the Whittier tunnel road finally reopened this week after the rock slide of a few weeks ago).
There is also a spring fling at Potter's Marsh from 12:00 - 4:00. If you haven't been there since they completed the second boardwalk (last year), you really should make a special trip. It's lovely.
Even the Anchorage Fire Department is "feeling the love" of spring. They have an open house at Fire Station 1 (122 East 4th Ave) from 10:00 - 4:00 that will be kid-fun with food, music, tours, demos and free bike helmets.
Just get out there and enjoy the green, the warm, and the sweet springy side of Anchorage!
