Running Wild In Alaska

The snow is gone (from the Anchorage Bowl trails) and it is "that" time of year once again. the start of the running season. There are many races that you can participate in from shorter children's runs (the Zoo just had one last week) to marathons... and then there's the marathon up over a mountain pass.

The Mountain runs get a lot of special attention and most limit their numbers, making just getting INTO the race a competition. Especially the famous Mount Marathon in Seward on the 4th of July (in fact, the race is already full). Crow Pass Crossing, a wilderness mountain run on July 18th that includes crossing a swift river, is a full 24 miles from start to finish... in addition to being up and over a mountain pass. They limit that race to 130 runners.

If mountain running sounds "fun" to you, your can get the skinney on all of the races at www.alaskamountainrunners.org
