Spa Day at Darae's

It is so nice to pamper yourself every once and a while. Usually, in Anchorage, that takes some planning. But Intuitions and Allure book up pretty far in advance. Especially when you want a treat with a friend such as side by side pedicures. When a friend suggested pedicures... um... the next day. I said there was no way we'd find a place. She suggested I call Darae's and so I did.

Darae's is off of Minnesota and I pass it almost every day as I drive my son to school. The digital sign out front display's their name and spa type photo's. I was suprised to find that not only did they have side by side pedicure chairs (2), but that they also had availability for the next day.

Darae's was cozy. The waiting area, a nook off of the front desk area, was small, but charming. They led us upstairs to the pedicure area. If I had been reading the signs along the way, I might have noticed that they specialize in natural treatments with plant products. They are an Aveda retailer. The more I soaked in the atmosphere, the more i relaxed... and laughed too. On the banister leading upstairs is a kooky looking cat with eyes and tail that tick tock back and forth. It seemed at odds with everything else... but sort of fit in too.

Darae's is one of those Anchorage blends of interesting, local, and different. The bonus is that, not only were we able to get in on short notice, but it was less expensive than some of the other places in town. hecking out their brochure, they also offer packages (not offered by many other spa's in town), including a 6 hour spa day that includes many of their services. If you are curious... it is $400 for 6 hours, includes massage, facial, aroma therapy, manicure, pedicure, shampoo & style with a lunch thrown in there too. Lovely... daraes@gci.net
