Mount Redoubt Eruption

Hello travelers,

Here is your local volcano alert. The Aluetian Range is at it again, trying to redirect your flights and change your travel plans. An eruption is expected and, if you are planning a trip to South Central Alaska, you may want to bring your own face mask because the stores are running low as our residents stock up. If you would like to keep tabs on our cranky little mountain, check out the following websites:

We are planning to travel to Anchorage, Denali, Fairbanks and Kenali in July, with the eruption, should we make other plans. We have two persons with Asthma conditions in our group

No, do not change your summer plans based on Mount Redoubt. If it erupts, it should be soon and all should be well by then. Things to be looking for closer in to your trip (considering your medical concerns) would be forest fires... or continued of new eruptions. Trip insurance is always a good idea in the event that you have to cancel at the last moment.

Alaska is a marvelous place to visit and the areas that you are planning to see are well worth the trip. The interior (Fairbanks & Denali) won't be affected by Redoubt. Anchorage and the Kenai get enough snow and rain that we should be scoured clean before July.
