Superbowl, Schmuperbowl...
Super Bowl Sunday? In Alaska? Yep, sure, there'll be plenty plastered to their TV's this Sunday. BUT, if you are more into doing something exciting than you are into watching funny commercials... oh yeah, and a game... then get yer keester outside and play. The snow is falling in buckets today. Good good news for our iced-up city! Here are some great ideas for your outdoor adventure on Sunday!
#1 - Yes, and this one rocks! It is the 13th annual "Alaska Ski for Women." You don't have to ski it... you can just go and watch the fun, rate costumes, and cheer on the costumed beauties. It is no coincidence that this event is on Super Bowl Sunday... and somehow equally unsurprising that it is North America's Largest all-women Nordic ski race event. Join us at Kincaid park. The time races start at 10:30 (classic) and 11:00 (freestyle). Gather at 11:00 for the costume judging and parade at 11:30 AM. The untimed, fun race starts at 12:00 PM. www.anchoragenordicski.com
#2 - Animal Tracking: Drive North to the Eagle River Nature Center and learn how to track an animals at 2:00 PM. www.ernc.org
#3 - Sunday ends the "FREEZE Project" with a lecture on Arctic Native art and a presentation about polar bear ecology (at 2:00 and 3:00 respectively) at the Anchorage Museum. www.freezeproject.org If you want an ocerview of this different look at life in the North, come to the Museum on Tuesday (Feb. 3rd)
