Media In Alaska
Part of the fun of living in Alaska, is taking a closer look at the local media. We've often joked that anyone can (and does) have a commercial on TV. I don't know the cost, but from the businesses I've seen advertising... it must be quite reasonable.
And, so it also goes with local production such as News Teams. When we travel to the lower 48 (continental US), the local news anchors are coifed, sharply outfitted and professionally made-up. Up here... well, golly, even your Aunt Sally could step in front of the camera and do just fine. I'd like to say that is an overstatement, I even hope it is, but I don't think so.
We can test the theory, of course... here is how... ABC is looking for a fill in weather anchor. The ad is on Craigslist. I've copied, cut and pasted below for your review.
ABC Channel 13 Alaska's Superstation is looking to hire a PART-TIME, FILL-IN, Evening Weather Reporter. The successful candidate will have excellent computer knowledge and great communication skills. The individual will be detail-oriented, conscientious, dependable, and have a positive attitude.
No experience necessary, we are willing to train the right person.
Please send your resume to ABC Channel 13, 2700 E. Tudor Road Anchorage, AK 99507 or fax to 561-1377 or e-mail to sdouglas@aksuperstation.com. EOE
Did you get that "no experience necessary" part... hmmm... come on down folks, put in your applications!
