The Anchorage Daily News
I love our "little" hometown newspaper. The Anchorage Daily News is the best newspaper out there. I'm not talking about hard core news, scoops, or even journalism at its "best." I am talking about readability. I've lived in several different cities/states and this is the only place that I can, and want to, read most of the paper.
I love the local items and the editorials. Even when things get heated, they are always interesting. I'm grateful that there is enough world news that I can stay informed. The special segments that come out now and again (on fishing, winter sports, events, and this week, children's summer camps) are so useful that I save them through the season. The comments are well thought out and well written. If I need something to do with my kids, there is a listing of kid events in the Friday "Play." The Sunday sectionholds articles about Alaskan pioneers and Craig Medred's "Outdoors" segment is varied and enticing enough to keep a total couch potato reading. I took up knitting and, low and behold, there's even a weekly knitting column.
Our local paper is like a candy store, something for everyone's taste. There is enough to keep you interested and informed, but not so much that you don't have time to read it. If you are stopping through this summer, pick up a paper and find out what I mean!
