On a Clear Day, You Can See McKinley...
Yes, it is below zero again here in Anchorage. But, with the cold comes a crystal clear sky that goes on for hundreds of miles. Mount McKinley, North America's tallest peak is 140 miles North of Anchorage. It is often obscured in clouds as it is so much taller than the surrounding mountains that it creates its own weather systems. But on day's like today, Mount McKinley and Mount Foraker stand out as bold as brass. All of the mountains are glitter powder white and crisply outlined against the cold blue sky. Mount Spur, Mount Iliamna, and Mount Redoubt, all active volcano's, are likewise visible in the distance from the South side of town. The Kenai Range, The Chugach Range, The Alaska Range... it is mountains, mountains, mountains everywhere you look! On warmer days, I am often outside hiking and playing on our local mountain trails. Today, I am just enjoying the view!
