Weekend on Ice
It is a fantastic weekend to be in Anchorage. There is SO darned much to do. The Ice Fishing Jamboree, which was originally scheduled for December but postponed due to thin ice, is on again for this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM) out on Jewel Lake. Also in the mix is a Winter Festival starting at 12:00 PM out in the "Mat-Su" valley at the college there (one hour North of Anchorage). They are celebrating their 50th year with horse drawn sleigh rides, live reindeer, storytelling and more. If that isn't enough winter fun for you, then on Sunday you can make your way to the East side of Anchorage. They will be holding the "Buckets of Fun: Festival on Ice" out at Goose Lake there (near the University of Anchorage off of Northern Lights Blvd. & U.A.A. Drive). There will be different ice skating related activities and competitions.
