Wild Salmon on Parade
If you are going to be in Anchorage this summer, you might notice that something fishy is going on around here. All over town, there will be Salmon sculptures, wildly painted, named and mounted on the city streets for all to see. This is part of the "Wild Salmon on Parade," which was inspired by "Cows on Parade" (Chicago, IL) and ""Spirit of Soul Salmon" (Olympia, WA). The salmon are displayed all summer long. Then in the fall, they are auctioned off. The proceeds go to benefit Camp Fire USA Alaska Council, Alaska Conservation Foundation, and Anchorage Concert Association.
It might seem early to be mentioning now. It is the middle of the winter, after all. But someone has to MAKE the salmon, you know. If you live in the Anchorage area and are an artist, or a desire to be one... or what the heck, you just would like to design a salmon... you are welcome to submit your design for consideration. Check out http://www.wildsalmonondisplay.com/ for the submission packet. The theme for 2008 will be "Alaska's 50 years of statehood."
