Anchorage Folk Festival - Jan. 17 - 27
With more than 120 acts from around the world, including some of our own very talented local artists, The Anchorage Folk Festival brings free concerts and workshops to our city each January. Events include storytelling, dances, singing, and more. The folk influences in these performances are from all over the world including; Celtic, bluegrass, jazz and more. Starting this evening at the UAA Wendy Williamson Auditorium, the different performers rotate through (with a few exceptions) every 15 minutes. Acts tonight include juggling, banjo, singers and dancers. Tomorrow night (Friday) and on Sunday the main stage will be graced by "the Stairwell Sisters" in addition to many more. Next weekend's headline guests include "The Savoy Family Band." Check out their complete schedule at http://www.anchoragefolkfestival.org/glance.htm
Keep in mind that, although performances are free, parking is never free on the UAA campus and they will ticket you if you try to sneak a spot. It's only $5 (at least it was the last time I was there). Give yourself time to find their kiosk and buy a parking pass for the day or evening.
