It is First Friday Today!
That "First Friday" always seems to roll around rather quickly and pass me by. Here in Anchorage, First Friday is a gallery walk… a series of gallery openings, open studio's, and showings that are not necessarily available during the rest of the month. Most of them are right downtown within easy walking distance of each other. It is fun to make an evening of it, have a glass of wine at one of the more "swanky" places in town, and have some grown-up fun.
Some of the events that are happening this month around First Friday are:
McGinley's Pub at 645 G Street: "First Taste" a sampling of three new beers (yep, there is a charge).
Anchorage Museum at121 W. 7th Ave.: "First Friday Fun for Singles." They are waiving the museum entrance fee and inviting the foot loose and fancy free to come and mingle.
Artique ltd at 314 G Street: This gallery is always a part of First Friday, but this month they have an opening reception from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM for works by Steven Gordon (oil paintings) and Holly Gittlein (metal sculptures). There will be work by their "regulars" on display as well. I love the glasswork in this gallery!
Other galleries that will be "open with a reception" include:
International Gallery of Contemporary Art, 427 D Street (Cassandra Rockwood-Rice, multi-media. More artists featured as well.)
Whale's Tail; at the Captain Cook Hotel (Larissa Villar, oils on canvas)
Midnight Sun Café at 245 W 5th Ave. (Whaley Schmoyer, canvas, acrylic, papers & ink)
Kaladi Bros. Coffee at 621 W 6th Ave (works by Sharon Ennis)
Snow City Café at 1034 W 4th Ave (photography, multiple artists)
And more…
