New Year's at Alyeska Resort

Before I had kiddo's, this was where I spent all of my New Year's evenings. How can you beat a torchlight parade down the mountain? Yep, they take your poles and send you up (for free) the chair lift. At the top, they hand you a flaming torch and wish you well (hope for no ice) as you follow the snaking trail of human torches making their way down the mountain. A few people always ditch their torch and poach a trail… but not many. Most are there to be a part of a really amazing visual spectacle. If you want to be a part of the parade, meet at the base of Chair 4 at 8:00 PM to upload. If you just want to watch, join the crowd at the base of Chair 6 at 8:30 PM. Fireworks will follow at 9:00 PM with the daylodge open (to get warm and buy snacks) until 9:30PM.

Then you are off to your "after party." I hope you already have tickets. The more casual party on the mountain is at "The Sitz" (Sitzmark). The live band is "The Power of Ten." I hear that the event is sold out. But the band will be playing until 2:00 AM, so I'm sure space will open up as the morning approaches.

The dress-up event is held at the Seven Glaciers, also sold out this year… sorry! If you don't have tickets in Girdwood, then you'll end up in live at Maxine's or The Double Musky where they don't take reservations.
