A Diverse Array of Entertainment Options
Alaska tends to lean to the conservative side. But, Anchorage is "the big city" here, and therefore we have a better mix of alternative entertainment than anywhere else in the state. Just to give you a peek at how diverse our community is, take a look at the different events being offered up around town for Friday night (December 28th).
AK All Academics Winter Banquet and Ball: This formal event is for military cadets/midshipmen (from any branch of the military) and their families. It starts at 6:00 PM at the Anchorage Marriott Downtown.
Transgender Sparkling Dress Up Holiday Party: The notice doesn't say "formal," but it might as well. With the attire being your best dress or suit, I can picture many full-length sparkly gowns! Go girls! This is a potluck and gift exchange. It is from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at the Gay & Lesbian Community Center (2110 E. Northern Lights). The event is free to attend.
Old Time Fiddle Dance: If you are not military and not transgender, there is still an event (or five) for you, including this super dance. Native fiddlers and musicians from around the state will be gathering at the Moose Lodge (4211 Arctic Blvd) at 7:00 PM. 12 and under are free, but grownups have a $10 cover charge.
Other Friday night events include: Alaska Magic Kids Holiday Magic Extravaganza (Snow Goose), Chess Club (Title Wave Books on Northern Lights), AT&T Alascom Jamboree (local college basketball, Wells Fargo Sports Complex at UAA), and more.
If you are looking for something to do on Friday night in Anchorage, there is sure to be an event that suits your taste!
