Anchorage: Ice Wine and Port Tasting

On Tuesday, December 11th at 6:30 PM, "The Whale's Tail" at the Captain Cook Hotel is holding an Ice Wine and Port tasting event for $80 per person The Captain Cook Hotel is a great place to visit at any time of year. Located at 939 W 5th Avenue, the hotel is within easy walking distance to downtown, to the Oscar Anderson House Museum, and the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.

I won't say this about just any hotel... but the gift shops at the Captain Cook Hotel are phenomenal. I'll go there when I need a great gift and don't have time to "look." I know they'll always have just the thing. The hotel is plastered with paintings and artwork honoring the voyages of Captain Cook. It's really lovely. They also put up a great holiday display, which used to include a huge gingerbread village (I haven't been there yet this season, so I'm not sure if it's up this year).

The Whale's Tail is an excellent wine bar featuring more than 30 wines by the glass. "Ice Wine" is a special sweet dessert wine that is made by waiting until the grapes have frozen on the vines before harvesting them. It is made in smaller quantities than other wines and is therefore more expensive (but worth it if you have a sweet tooth like I do). Port is also a sweet dessert or after-dinner wine. It is made in Portugal (unlike "porto" which is the same type of wine made anywhere else in the world).

Come and try "the good stuff." It might seem decadent, but you deserve this kind of sweetness in your life! 907-301-6756
