AK Ice Fishing Jamboree on December 15 & 16, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
This ice fishing event, on December 15 & 16, is held on Jewel Lake (4342 W. 88th) every year. We have gone for 3 years running and wouldn't miss it for anything! It is a great introduction to ice fishing. First of all, this family friendly event is free, which makes it accessible to everyone. The holes are predrilled (lots and lots of them). When you get there, you are given a loaner fishing pole and bait. There is a warming tent and hot chocolate for a break from the winter cold. Last year there were free pony rides and Santa even showed up for a while. This year they are adding metal detecting (go treasure hunting on the shore) and ice skating. There will be door prizes as well. The biggest thing to remember is that you'll be standing on a frozen lake for a good long while as you try to coax the fish to eat your shrimp. Wear warm clothes and good boots to stay comfortable. Make sure the kids are dressed warmly too! Go to Ice Fishing Jamboree for more information.
