Anchorage, AK - Hike, Ice Climb, Adventure

Go on a hike with someone "in the know" here in Anchorage. Here are two options to fit your skill level from beginner to advanced.

The first is a social group called "Alaska Outdoors." They meet two times per week and go on hikes. They advertise that kids and dogs are welcome, so don't expect to need special equipment of even to break a sweat if you don't want to. The purpose of the group is to get people enjoying the outdoors. The trails they pick are accessible and easy to moderate. They meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM. This is a great way to meet some friendly locals, learn a little about the extensive trail system with the city limits of Anchorage, and get recommendations for additional trails if you are interested.

If you are a more serious hiker/climber, there is a group call the Mountaineering Club of Alaska. They meet once a month to plan trips and swap gear and stories. They offer classes in hiking, ice climbing, orienteering, and more. You must join the group to participate, but the cost is a mere $15 per year. Their website has a listing of upcoming trips/climbs and classes and more. The trips and classes do have costs associated with them, but again, not much for what you are getting, which is a great group, and experienced guides, and a unique Alaskan adventure that most people will never experience.
