The Anchorage International Film Festival
The Anchorage International Film Festival (AIFF) November 30 - December 9, 2007: Yep, that did say Anchorage! ...As in Anchorage, Alaska. We actually have an "international film festival." It may not be as well known as, say, the Sundance Film Festival, but the AIFF is in its 7th year and they are offering over 150 "Films Worth Freezing For" from 25 countries.
Mingle with international film crews from Australia, Russia and Italy at the "Anchor Pub & Club" during the opening night gala at 7:30 PM on November 30th. The cost is $15.00 for this single event. It is included if you have purchased an all events pass for $75.00, which includes the Opening Gala, entrance to all films, the Martini Matinee, and the Awards Ceremony. Tickets to single screenings cost (usually) $7.00.You can also buy a pass to all of the films (not the events) for $50.00.
One of the things I love about Anchorage is its very diverse community. We have ice hockey next to yoga classes. We have big oil companies down the street from mom and pop stores. And we have moose hunting, ATV riding, ice-fishermen living among a cultured crowd that supports an international film festival (some of whom play hockey, work for a big oil company, and hunt and fish using their ATV's). A VERY diverse population!
