Alaska Wilderness Woman Contest and Bachelor Auction, December 1st
Okay ladies! Do you need an excuse to get yourself to Alaska and find the wild woman that you know exists in your heart? Each year, Talkeenta hosts the event of all events for single, wild women everywhere. And I am not talking about "Paris Hilton" wild. She wouldn't make it through the first event! I am talking about a "Grizzley Adams" kind of wild, the inner cave-woman that you've been denying all these years! It is called the Wilderness Woman Contest and Bachelor Auction.
This year the event is on December 1st. You must be a single woman of at least 21 years of age to participate. The timed competitions (there will be three of them) change from year to year. Samples of the events, which are intended to show how well suited for life in the wilderness you are (and therefore a "catch" for a wilderness man), include: hauling firewood or water, snow machining, games to show "hunting/fishing skills" (I understand the bachelors will pretend to be a moose if that is the event that year) and more. It might even include sandwich making or beer fetching for your typical wilderness man (eeks, still interested? Remember this is all in good fun and a spoof of sorts.)
After the competition, in the evening attend the big Talkeetna Bachelor Society Auction and Bachelor Ball. Only single ladies (over 21) and bachelors to be auctioned are allowed into the bidding room for the auction. The Wilderness Woman will be crowned at this event and then the auction begins. The single gentlemen of Talkeetna (the brave ones) dandy themselves up and step onto the auction block. Winning bidders (ladies) are entitled to a drink and a dance with their bachelor at the ball.
