Town Square Christmas Tree Lighting, November 23rd
Come get into the spirit of the season in the heart of downtown Anchorage. The fun starts at 5:30 PM on Friday November 23rd in Town Square (on E Street between 4th and 5th Ave.'s). AT&T Alascom sponsors the tree which will be lit among much fanfare. There will be live music, including native songs, and storytelling. Cookies and cocoa will be served and to cap it all off, Santa and "the reindeer" will be there from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM.
The city has already done its magic changing act from "city of flowers" to the winter's "city of lights." In early January, Town Square will transform from mid-town gathering space to a crystal gallery of ice with a children's ice park. The theme changes every year. Last year we were under the sea, this year we'll go the other direction with an "Out of this World" theme. The ice slide is always a winner, as is the ice-skating rink (and it's free, if you have your own skates.)
