Chilkoot Charlie's
Chilkoot Charlie's, AKA "Koots" is where the music, dance, and night life is for those who need no (or little) sleep. They "cheat the other guy and pass the savings on to you." They grew up from a sleepy little bar in the early 70's to the wild packed crazy spot that it is today. They now have 3 dance floors, 3 stages and 11 bars. The bar is maze like as you wandered, pressed in by the masses, from room to room.
They bring in live comedy. Big Jay Oakerson and Betsy Wise are each performing there in the next two weeks respectively. The floor vibrates with the pumping music. The live bands change frequently from newcomers to old timers. "Iron Maidens" were there this last week and "Fuel" will be playing there on December 14th. There are also football nights, Karaoke and a swing bar. As you go from one pulsing packed room to the next, there is always something different around the next corner.
"Koots" is located in Mid-town at 2435 Spenard Road. Every taxi driver will know the way. It's not the prettiest part of town, but you'll have no CLUE about that once you are inside. If you are in Anchorage and have "party" on your mind, Chilkoot Charlie's is the place for you.
