Alyeska Resort Opens for Skiing

Alyeska Resort opened the mountain for the first day of skiing today, November 17th! Keep in mind that today was their planned opening day, but their new snow making equipment was not yet operating and there was some doubt as to their ability to open on time. Lucky for them, we just happened to get a huge dump of snow, which brought their base to 89-inches at the summit. If all goes well, they will have over 600-inches of snow by the end of the season, and probably much much more.

Only the upper half of the mountain is open for skiing so far. Alyeska is known to suffer from "the bikini effect" in the early season (snow at the top, snow at the bottom, but bare in the middle). They opened the tram to get skiers to the top. From there you can ski and ride up to the base of the glacier bowl using chair 6, which starts just below the tram's upper terminal. At the end of the day, skiers will need to take the tram back to the base of the mountain.

Due to the limited amount of ski runs that are available, Alyeska Resort is offering a discount off of the regular ticket prices. This weekend you can ski all day for $35 (instead of $50). Additional discounts are offered for students, seniors, and military.

Overnight/lift ticket packages are available if you stay at the hotel. The mountain is open for the weekend only. The lifts will be closed Monday - Wednesday and then open again on Thanksgiving for a four-day weekend. Hurray for snow! Come ski Alyeska!
